GridIron Data commercial license
Quick answer: To use GridIron data in a product that earns money, you need the commercial license. It comes with Pro + Commercial: $49 a month or $490 a year, for companies with under USD $250,000 in yearly revenue. You get everything in Pro (the same endpoints and 50,000 requests a month) plus the right to run the API in your product, train your own models on the history, and publish your own forecasts. Larger companies and wider data display need Enterprise.
- Plan
- Pro + Commercial
- Monthly
- $49 / month
- Annual
- $490 / year
- Eligibility
- Under $250k revenue
- Data access
- Same as Pro
This license adds to the Terms of Service; where they differ for a commercial customer, this page applies. It is in effect while your Pro + Commercial (or Enterprise) subscription is active.
Which plan do I need?
"Commercial" means the product earns money, directly or through ads, sponsorships or affiliate links, or is run by a business for its customers.
| Use | Free | Basic | Pro | Pro + Commercial | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal projects, your own league, learning, a class | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Internal research and model building (nothing shown to paying users) | n/a | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| A free, non-commercial public site or bot (no ads, no subscriptions) that shows your own outputs | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Runtime input to a product people pay for (subscriptions, ads, paid tiers, a paid Discord) | No | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Publish your own derived outputs (projections, probabilities, rankings, analysis) to paying users | No | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Show limited supporting data next to your outputs | No | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Wider display of the data, higher volume, an SLA, invoicing | No | No | No | No | Yes |
Eligibility: Pro + Commercial is for a company (or person) with under USD $250,000 in revenue a year. You confirm this when you subscribe, and we may ask again at renewal. Above that, or for more than one product, email info@gridirondata.com about Enterprise.
What does the commercial license allow?
- Runtime use. Call the API from your production systems and use the responses as inputs to your own engine, inside your plan's request limits.
- Training, fitting, backtesting and calibration of your own models on the historical data the API returns, except the benchmark-only fields listed below.
- Publishing derived outputs. Your own forecasts, probabilities, simulations, rankings and written analysis belong to you, and you may publish and sell them. An output is "derived" when it is the result of your own model or analysis and a reader could not rebuild our dataset from it.
- Retention. Cache and store API data while your license is active. Model parameters, weights and outputs you created are yours to keep. Within 30 days after the license ends, stop using stored raw API data in production and delete it, except copies kept only to reproduce or audit results you already published.
- Benchmarking. Compare your forecasts with GridIron projections and prop probabilities for your own evaluation. Don't show our projections or probabilities to your users, and don't publish side-by-side comparisons that reproduce our numbers.
How much of the data can I show?
Next to your own outputs you may show the supporting facts a user needs to read them: for example a player's recent game lines, snap share, target share, injury status, the schedule and the game line. Keep it supporting context, not a browsable database: no full league tables, no downloadable or exportable copies, no API.
Credit it as "Data: GridIron Data" with a link to gridirondata.com on the page or screen where it appears. Wider display (full stat tables, historical archives) needs Enterprise.
Which fields are benchmark-only?
Some fields are built on third-party content that we can't sublicense. They come with every Pro key, but under the commercial license they are for internal use only:
| Field or endpoint | What you may do |
|---|---|
Projections: projected_points, /projections, /projections/ros, projected_stats, and the projected side of /deviations | Internal benchmarking only. No display, no republishing, and no training a commercial model on them. |
Prop probabilities and fair odds from /props | Internal benchmarking only. Don't display or resell them. |
Betting lines on /schedule (spread, total, moneylines, implied points) | Use as a model input and for benchmarking. Don't republish them as an odds feed. |
News items from /news | Show the headline as a link to the original source. Don't republish article text. |
Box scores, /stats, /defense, /usage, snap counts, injury status, the schedule | Covered by the license above, with the "Data: GridIron Data" credit. |
GridIron Data does not sell route participation, coverage, pressure or other charting data.
What does no plan allow?
- Reselling, sublicensing or redistributing the raw data, in whole or in bulk, in any format (files, feeds, spreadsheets, downloads).
- Offering an API, data feed, MCP server or dataset that exposes our data or competes with GridIron Data.
- Bulk export or scraping beyond your plan, or sharing one key across unrelated products or companies.
- Showing our projections, prop probabilities or fair odds to your users as your own.
- Training a model whose purpose is to reproduce or replace our dataset.
Frequently asked questions
Is the data different from Pro?
No. Pro + Commercial has exactly Pro's data access: the same endpoints, 50,000 requests a month and 100 a minute. The difference is the license.
I already have Pro. How do I add the license?
Open Manage Subscription & Payment on your dashboard and switch to Pro + Commercial, or email info@gridirondata.com and we will switch it for you. Your API key stays the same.
What happens if I cancel?
The license ends with the subscription. Anything you built and published while it was active stays yours; stored raw API data has to be out of production and deleted within 30 days.
Questions about a specific use?
Email info@gridirondata.com with what you are building. If it doesn't fit this page, we can write it into an Enterprise agreement.
