Quick answer: If you write about or teach fantasy football data, sports analytics or Python, you can earn 30% of what each customer you refer pays in their first 12 months. You get a referral link (?ref=YOURCODE on any page), an optional discount code for your audience, and a private page with your clicks, signups and commission. Commission is held 30 days, then paid to your bank automatically through Stripe each month. Apply by emailing aaron@gridirondata.com.

Who is the affiliate program for?

People who write about or teach fantasy football data, sports analytics or Python: newsletters, YouTube channels, courses, blogs and Discord communities.

To apply, email aaron@gridirondata.com with:

  • Your name.
  • Where you'll share the link.
  • The code you'd like: 3 to 32 characters of lower-case letters, digits and hyphens, such as sunday-data.

Can my audience get a discount?

Optionally. Aaron can also give you a Stripe promotion code, your code in capitals (for example YOURCODE), that takes a percentage off the buyer's first payment, typically 10%. It works for first-time customers only.

A purchase made with your promotion code credits you even if the buyer never clicked your link, which helps with podcasts, videos and printed material where a link is awkward.

How much do I earn?

30% of what a referred customer pays in their first 12 months, counted as 365 days from their first payment.

Customer buysCustomer paysYour commission
Basic, annual$45$13.50
Basic, annual, with a 10% promotion code$40.50$12.15
Pro, annual$249$74.70
Basic, monthly$5 a month$1.50 a month, for up to 12 months
Pro, monthly$29 a month$8.70 a month, for up to 12 months

With a promotion code, commission is on the discounted amount. Free signups earn nothing until they pay. A free account you referred keeps the code that brought it in, so if it upgrades later, those payments count toward your 30%.

When am I paid?

Automatically, through Stripe. Nobody has to approve a payout.

  • Pending: each commission is held for 30 days, the refund window.
  • Owed: after 30 days it becomes owed.
  • Paid: on the 1st of each month, everything owed is sent to your bank through Stripe. If it comes to less than $25, it carries over to the next month.
  • Refunds and chargebacks: if a payment is refunded or charged back, its commission is taken back automatically, in proportion to the amount refunded. If it was already paid, that amount comes out of your next payout. A chargeback that is reversed in GridIron Data's favor gives the commission back.

Setting up payouts

Payouts use Stripe Connect. Your welcome email and your private stats page have a Set up payouts link to a Stripe page where you enter your identity and bank details. Stripe holds those details, not GridIron Data, and you get your own Stripe dashboard to see payouts and change your bank account.

  • It takes a few minutes and is needed once. Commission keeps accruing until you do it, and nothing is lost.
  • If you're owed at least $25 and haven't set up payouts, you get one reminder email a month.
  • Payouts are available in the US, Canada, the UK, Switzerland and the European Economic Area.
  • US affiliates: Stripe collects your tax details during setup, and if your commission for the year is over the IRS reporting threshold, the 1099 comes through Stripe.

Where do I see my numbers?

When you join you get a private link: https://www.gridirondata.com/pages/affiliates.html?code=YOURCODE&t=TOKEN. It opens this page with your numbers at the top:

  • Clicks, signups and paid customers.
  • Commission that is pending, owed and paid, and the date of your next payout.
  • Whether payouts are set up, with the link to set them up or open your Stripe dashboard.
  • Each payment: date, amount, commission and state.

It never shows your customers' email addresses. Keep the link to yourself; anyone with it can see your stats.

What isn't allowed?

  • Referring yourself. Your own purchases earn no commission.
  • Spam.
  • Misrepresenting GridIron Data or its data.
  • Bidding on "GridIron Data" brand terms in paid search.

Aaron may end an affiliate's code for abuse. Commission already earned on legitimate sales is still paid. These terms may change with notice; changes don't affect commission already earned.

Can customers refer friends?

Yes. Every paying subscriber, Basic or Pro, sees their own referral link on the dashboard under "Refer a friend". It earns the same 30% of a friend's first 12 months, added automatically as account credit on your GridIron subscription once the friend's payment clears the 30-day hold, and taken off your next invoice. It's credit, not cash. Self-referrals don't count.

Frequently asked questions

How much commission does a GridIron Data affiliate earn?

30% of what a referred customer pays in their first 12 months (365 days from their first payment). A Basic annual plan at $45 earns $13.50; a Pro annual plan at $249 earns $74.70; a Basic monthly plan earns $1.50 a month and a Pro monthly plan $8.70 a month, for up to 12 months.

How long does a referral last?

60 days. The code is kept in the visitor's browser (local storage, not a cookie), and the last referral link clicked wins. It is carried through signup and Stripe checkout.

When is commission paid?

Automatically, through Stripe. Each commission is pending for 30 days, the refund window, and then owed. On the 1st of each month everything owed is sent to your bank through Stripe, once it comes to at least $25; less than that carries over to the next month. You set up payouts once on a Stripe page that collects your identity and bank details. Refunded or charged-back payments are taken back automatically.

Do free signups earn commission?

Not until they pay. A free account you referred keeps your code, so if it upgrades later the payments count.

Can GridIron Data customers refer friends?

Yes. Every Basic or Pro subscriber has a referral link on their dashboard. It earns the same 30% of a friend's first 12 months, added automatically as account credit on the subscriber's GridIron subscription (it comes off their next invoice) rather than cash.
