Who is the Classroom program for?

Instructors teaching sports analytics, fantasy football or data courses: a university course, a coding course, a bootcamp module. Students use the API for assignments and projects, and the free plan's 50 requests a month runs out fast in a course. The Classroom program gives each student a Basic key for the length of the term.

What do students get?

A Basic key, free until the class's last day. It is the same Basic plan that costs $45 a year or $5 a month. Pro is not included, so the betting data and the injury changes feed are not part of it.

How does an instructor set up a class?

Email aaron@gridirondata.com with:

  • The course name and the school.
  • Roughly how many students will sign up.
  • The last day students need access.
  • Optionally, a school email domain to limit signups to, such as uiowa.edu.

Aaron creates the class and sends you two links:

  1. The student link, with your class code in it: https://www.gridirondata.com/pages/signup.html?class=CODE. Codes look like IOWA-7K2QXM. Post it in your course page or syllabus.
  2. A private link to your seat page: https://www.gridirondata.com/pages/classroom.html?code=CODE&t=TOKEN. It shows seats used out of the total, the class's last day, and each student with a masked email (for example j***@uiowa.edu), the date they joined, and whether they are active, upgraded or ended. Keep this link to yourself; anyone with it can see the seat list.

The Classroom guide walks through both sides step by step.

How do students join?

New to GridIron Data: open the student link, sign up with a name, an email and a password, and enter the code we email to verify the address. No card is needed. The key appears on the dashboard, on Basic.

Already have a free account: open the student link and log in. The dashboard applies the class to the existing key, so the same key moves to Basic and code that already uses it keeps working.

How long does access last?

Until the class's last day, which can be any date up to about 13 months out. If you don't name one, the default this season is , the Monday after the Super Bowl.

Here is what happens at the end of a term with that default date:

  • 14 days before (February 1, 2027): each student gets one email. It says class access ends on February 15, that the key keeps working on the Free plan afterward, and that keeping Basic costs $45 a year (about $3.75 a month) or $5 a month, with the same key and no code changes.
  • The day after the last day (February 16, 2027): the key moves to the Free plan: the same key, 50 requests a month, player lookups and the current week's projections. The student gets one email saying so.

Students who buy Basic or Pro keep the same key and are not affected by the class ending. Nothing is deleted at the end of a term.

What limits keep it fair?

  • A seat cap per class, set when the class is created, up to 500.
  • One seat per email address, and one class per account.
  • No class on a paid account. An account that already has Basic or Pro has more than the class gives, so the code isn't applied to it.
  • An optional school email domain. If the class has one, only addresses at that domain can join.
  • Codes stop working after the class's last day, or if the class is revoked.

If a class is full when a student verifies their email, the student still gets a Free key and is told why. Email Aaron to add seats.

Aaron can revoke a class. That stops new signups on the code, and can optionally end access early, in which case students move to the Free plan on the next daily run.

What can the instructor see?

The seat page shows counts, the last day, and for each student a masked email, the join date and a status (active, upgraded or ended). It never shows a full email address or an API key.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Classroom program cost anything?

No. There is no cost to the instructor, the school or the students. Students do not enter a credit card.

Which plan do students get?

Basic, free for the term: 5,000 requests a month at 30 a minute and every standard endpoint, including all weeks' projections, game-by-game actuals from 2020 to 2026, deviations, snap share, matchup history and news. The betting data and the injury changes feed are on Pro and are not included.

What happens to a student's key when the term ends?

The day after the class's last day, the same key moves to the Free plan: 50 requests a month, player lookups and the current week's projections. Nothing is deleted. A student who wants to keep Basic can buy it for $45 a year or $5 a month and keep the same key.

Can the instructor see students' API keys or email addresses?

No. The instructor's seat page shows a masked email (for example j***@uiowa.edu), the date each student joined and whether they are active, upgraded or ended. It never shows full email addresses or API keys.

What if the class is full?

A student who verifies after the seats are used still gets a Free key and is told why. The instructor can email aaron@gridirondata.com to ask for more seats.
